A brief description of the course

THE UWI OPEN CAMPUS

MANAGING AND FACILITATING ONLINE INSTRUCTION

Course Introduction

One of the keys to success for online students is the ability of academic staff to motivate and manage them in a way that ensures their academic success. Those who deliver the programme and its related courses can and should have considerable impact on student success since they deal with learners on a day-to-day basis.

Universities and distance education institutions have different titles for those who support the delivery of distance education courses. They are at times referred to as facilitators, online instructors, professors, tutors, distance learning instructors and others. In most distance learning organizations there are normally two positions that are responsible for course delivery; the Course Coordinator, as the academic lead and in courses will a large student population the coordinator is often supported by a team of online Tutors who guide and interact with small groups of learners as they move through the course.

In most universities, online tutors guide between 20 to 30 students through their studies, readings, assignments, online quizzes, projects and online discussions. They engage the learners in discussions and provide feedback on their assignments, projects and academic related questions.
